Transport Logistics 2019 Munich

The world’s largest transportation and logistics expo is a bi-annual conference in Munich Germany. With over 64,000 attendees from 125 countries, in over ten different expo halls plus a large outdoor area, it is one of the most comprehensive transportation conferences to attend.

The Zmodal team had an incredible time meeting many new faces and exploring the many expo halls.

A major focus of the speakers was on the adoption of technology within the industry, which allows for better communication between supply chain partners and with the use of shipment data, better decision making from improved data analytics.  The newly operational China-Europe Silk road railway was a hot topic as well, with many European and Asian shipping operators focusing on the advantages of intermodal to air and ocean freight, with rail representing a good middle ground in cost and shipment time between ocean and air freight. Previously, this route was compromised of multiple rail gauges requiring the transfer of containers from one rail system to another multiple times in order to get from China-Europe. The enormous undertaking to improve this route largely focused on making a contiguous rail network of a common gauge across this lane.

The sheer size of the conference is impressive. No matter what your area of interest is or niche is within the logistics industry, you’ll be sure to find many booths and likely an entire expo hall dedicated to it.

Munich is also a great city to visit, with many interesting sites and restaurants. The expo itself is a short drive or train ride from the city center. Be sure to reserve hotel accommodations well in advance, as nearly everyone will be outsold out by the time of the convention.

Already looking forward to to next one in 2021!
